Laboratory Analyst Trainee

Description : General Statement of Duties

Operation of the wastewater and drinking water laboratory including analyses, sampling, quality control and quality assurance programs, as well as lab data systems. Ensure accurate and reliable results applied to process control and NPDES permit requirements for the State of Colorado and EPA.

Organizational Responsibilities

Works under the close supervision of the Laboratory Manager and under direction of Laboratory Analysts I & II. This position requires a 40-hour work week. May be required to maintain an acceptable MVR as this position may use a company vehicle.

Typical Duties

  • Learns skilled technical laboratory functions, performing analyses on water, wastewater, and other environmental samples.
  • Becomes familiar with and maintains the operation of instruments and equipment in the lab.
  • Performs laboratory maintenance activities including, but not limited to, preparing reagents, media, and standards; cleans, maintains, and calibrates equipment and instrumentation; routine cleaning/decontamination/disinfection of glassware, working surfaces, equipment, and facility.
  • Performs calculations, data entry, and clerical tasks related for laboratory procedures and record keeping.
  • Assists Laboratory Analysts and Manager while learning, understanding, and becoming proficient in all PCWRA laboratory methods, analyses, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May assist in sample collection at the facility or additional offsite locations.
These duties are not all inclusive but represent items critical to success in this position.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biology– preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification in basic first aid and CPR.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a laboratory/office environment with potential field exposure.
  • May be exposed to various weather conditions including wet, hot and cold.
  • May be exposed to various environmental conditions such as excessive noise; solvents, grease and oils; and slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and blood borne pathogens.
  • Must follow all safety guidelines.
  • Moderate physical work.
  • Activities requiring a full range of body movements including sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, squatting, crawling, twisting, and climbing.
  • Excessive standing and working over analysis equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Hearing & visual acuity to safely operate equipment & identify hazards/technical problems.
Salary Range:

Hourly Rate: $19.00 - $25.00
